For many people a house is not a home unless it has a fireplace in the living room. Why is this the case? Maybe it is because a fireplace gives a home warmth, both physical and psychological warmth. Perhaps this notation is true because where you find a fireplace you can usually except to find people hanging out together. As they say, a fireplace makes a house a home. In many homes the fireplace is a center point of the house. However sometimes people do not know how best to arrange furniture in a room with a fireplace. As is evident in the below image. In this room the fireplace is hidden by the loveseat resulting in a room lacking a focal point.
How to Arrange Furniture in a Living Room with a Fireplace
The above room needs a lot of interior design help. If the furniture arrangement was changed to make the fireplace the focal point this living room could be more inviting. The furniture around a fireplace can dramatically affect the way you enjoy the fireplace and others with you. Deciding how to place your furniture in a room with a fireplace can be tricky, especially if you also have a television in the room. In this case you have to decide what is going to be a main focal point, the TV or the fireplace? Your decision on that question will dictate the placement of furniture in the room.
Warm & Interesting Furniture Arrangements
To illustrate to you how to arrange furniture in a room with a fireplace here are three furniture layouts.
Option 1: Perfect Layout For Family Game Night ~ This furniture layout draws your attention to the fireplace. I also place a secondary furniture grouping on the left for more intimate conversation. If you have the space in a room for multiple furniture groupings it is often nice to create different seating options. In this furniture arrangement if you have a television you could either hang it over the mantel, however prefer that to be a place for artwork. Or you could have a small TV stand to the side of the fireplace.
Option 2: Perfect Layout For Conversation ~ This furniture layout is ideal for a living room without a television. The two sofas or loveseats facing each other create a space perfect for conversations with friends and family. If you had a larger group over enjoying your beautiful fireplace you can always move the secondary furniture grouping closer.
Option 3: Perfect Layout For Entertaining ~ This furniture arrangement perfect for entertaining with friends. Everyone can see each other, interact and watch the fireplace. Also if you had a TV you could again hang it above the mantel or to the side of the fireplace. Do be afraid to place your furniture on an angle to the walls. This can create a more dramatic layout.
If you have a fireplace in your home, feel lucky because not everyone has one. Also please do not hide your fireplace with a bad furniture arrangement.
